OpenToko.org is a knowledge sharing community, set up around a series of open workshops in the field of art and technology. For each OpenToko workshop a topic is set and speakers are invited to share their knowledge and experience in that field. The cost of each workshop is up to you. You can choose how much the obtained knowledge is worth to you.

29 dec – #36 – Kinect workshop
30 dec – #37 – TechSnacks
29-12-2011 – 14u-18u, OpenToko Amersfoort
Learn how to use Microsoft’s Kinect 3D camera in open source environments like openFrameworks and Processing.
The first part of the workshop will get you started using the Kinect for your own purposes. The second part will focus on the use of the Kinect inside openFrameworks together with OpenNI. We will focus on implementing hand and finger recognition in combination with basic vector math inside openFrameworks, for generating meaningful parameters which can be used for any system to be controlled with the Kinect. Please bring your own Kinect camera.

Short presentations about technical topics by ‘yourself’
You have 30 minutes max to talk about a technical topic that inspires you. Try to present in such a way that after half an hour the participants have enough information for getting started with this technique. It can be about design, programming, electronics, hacking etc.

Toko # 14: 10:00 – 17:00 in Enschede. Adres: Stroinksbleekweg 2A
7523 ZL Enschede. tel (Edwin Dertien: 0651754662)
Het atelier bevindt zich in een verzamelgebouw (nummer 1tm8 staat op de deur) naast museum de Twentse Welle. Vanaf station is het te lopen (15 a 20 min)
The next toko will be on December 12th in Enschede. It is a follow up to the toko d.d. November 28th.
The ottantotto is an Arduino-derivative which has been designed by Edwin Dertien. The board has extensively been used in the last months in setups by ‘de Spullenmannen’ and others. The first test-batch of 50 boards is running out rapidly, so it is time to make a summary of what the board is capable of, which requirements – features and bugs we want in the next version.
We can also zoom in shortly on using arduino-derivatives outside the arduino environment: how to use eclipse or the WinAVR – programmers notepad – or winavr + AVRstudio for programming Arduino’s and alike.
As a followup on toko13 Andries lohmeijer will speak about a.o.
Toko # 14: 10:00 – 17:00 in Enschede. Address: Stroinksbleekweg 2A
7523 ZL Enschede. tel (edwin-dertien: 0651754662)
The location is Edwin’s workshop. It is located in a community building (numbers 1-8 on the door) next to museum ‘de Twentse Welle’. It is a 15-20 min hike from Enschede railway station.
